A day in the life of a first-year nursing student

Lectures in the morning, skills practice in the afternoon — this is how a typical day runs.

A day in the life of a first-year nursing student

The first year of B.Sc Nursing lays the foundation for everything that follows. Here is what a typical day looks like for our first-year students.

Morning: theory

The day starts with lectures in subjects such as Applied Anatomy, Applied Physiology and Nursing Foundation. Classes are kept interactive, with models and charts brought into the classroom.

Afternoon: in the lab

After lunch, students move to the skills labs. In the Pre-Clinical Science Lab they study skeletal and organ models up close; in the Nursing Foundation Lab they practise basics like bed making, taking vital signs and hand hygiene on manikins.

Evening: review

The day ends with self-study and preparation for the next class. Faculty are available for questions, and students often practise procedures together in small groups.

It is a busy schedule, but moving from lecture to practice on the same day helps concepts stick — and builds confidence for the clinical years ahead.
